Speaker Pack

Thank you for volunteering to speak at DAW Melbourne! It’s only through people in our community sharing knowledge that we will be able to grow.

Format

DAW Melbourne’s format is very informal. Aim to speak for 15-20 minutes, up to 30 minutes, with time for Q&A at the end. Some evenings we will have one talk, others we might have two. Some speakers use slides for a presentation, others simply talk, or you could present a live demo of your topic - it’s really up to you!

Our audience can bring to life an interactive experience, and will no doubt have some great questions for you on your chosen topic. Expect interruptions too - sometimes we get excited by a great topic and cannot wait until the end!

Your talk will be followed by relaxed networking, accompanied with a bar tab and some food.

Nervous?

Not everyone is a born public speaker and often the only way to get better at this trait is to practice, practice, practice. We like to think we provide a safe space for you to practice your presentation skills in front of a small, supportive group. We’re very informal, and we’re a community, so we’ll forgive a few fumbles and ‘umms’ and ‘uhhhs’. We’re interested in what you have to say and want to support your ability to say it.

If you’re struggling with content preparation or worries about your presentation, contact the event organisers and we can help you.

Commercial Plugs and getting ‘Sales’y

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again - DAW Melbourne aims to be a relaxed and friendly safe space for all attendees, whether you’re currently working in the Analytics field, running your own business, or you’re looking to break into the scene. We try to keep commercial plugs and sales out of the room. We generally have a wide range of people in the audience, so you can expect some great leads from your talk without having to plug throughout.

Appropriate Material

Please ensure the content you are providing is appropriate to our audience. Offensive, pornographic or violent material will not be tolerated. If you have any doubts or queries about the appropriateness of your content, run it by the event organisers first.
